Symbian 60 Tricks PART 2

N70 - Gallery Zoom Flaw & Fix
When you have a fairly large photo/picture/image that can be zoomed into,

1) Zoom in 25% by pressing 5,
2) You will see a bad quality picture (see left screenshot, note the chin area is pixelated)

I wondered why this was and thought it cant be right, so i investigated and found out how to 'fix' it.

Follow steps 1 and 2 above, then,
3) Zoom in again to 50% by pressing 5,
4) Zoom back out to 25% by pressing 0,
5) You will now see a good quality picture (see right screenshot)

I dont know why the phone is like this, another flaw that needs to be fixed...

I hope this helps anyone who also wondered why this happened!

NOD32: how to obtain a 90-day valid license

This article describes the easiest way to obtain a 90-day valid NOD32 license. With the ID and Password you will get you can download a standard retail version of NOD32 and obtain the latest updates faster by using Eset's high priority servers.

Follow these steps to obtain your license:

Go to NOD32CLUB and complete the form. Don't worry if you can't read chinese, just complete the following fields with the apropriate data:
1st field: name
2nd field: e-mail (use a valid e-mail)
3rd field: retype the e-mail

The rest of the fields are optional. Don't check the checkbox unless you want NOD32 newsletters (or spam in chinese)!

Press the left button for submitting the data. The second button is in case you don't receive a serial number in less then 30 minutes. If you don't then refill the form with the same data as you did before and press this button instead of the sumission button.

You will have to wait for the e-mail for about 30 minutes or less.

Note: be sure to check the bulk/spam folder too as most e-mail providers consider this as junk and it won't reach your inbox!

The e-mail that you will get from NOD32CLUB contains a Serial Number marked with red-underlined text. For those that want to know, the email contains instructions on how to obtain the ID and Password from the Serial Number but the whole process is in chinese only so that's why you don't need the rest of its contents.

The next step is to apply for an ID and Password using the Serial Number you got. Go to NOD32 Hong Kong/ registration page and complete the form. Just the first four fields are required. You can leave the rest as they are. As you can see the form is in both chinese and english so it's easyer to understand.

In a few minutes you will recive an e-mail containing an ID and Password valid for 90 days. You can go to Eset and download from the Download Purchased Software page the standard variant of the latest version 2 NOD32 available! When you install NOD32 be sure to enter the ID and Password when you are required to do so!

Note: There is a restriction to one valid Serial Number/ID per e-mail. If you reapply for a new ID then the former one will be deactivated!

startup "system error!!" ??? I have your Cure.

you are tired of seeing system errors on start-up after you have installed a nasty nasty application. You know what??? I always say every probelm has symptoms and ... What??? you tell me to get into the subject??? ok ok as you wish. These nasty system errors being thrown at you caused by the last program(s) you have installed which tries to operate on startup. So you want to fix it??? first you will need a program to access the file system. SeleQ for example or any similar software.
Now i want you to do the following:

1. Shutdown the phone and remove the MMC.
2. Turn on the phone and if it did not complain "system error!!" then you know the problem is concerning MMC. Shutdown the phone and goto 10.
3. If it complains about "system error!!" NO do not throw it out of the windows yet. Keep the MMC out and open SeleQ.
4. use SeleQ to go to C:\system\programs (programs folder is the one responsile for carrying the processes (applications whatever you name it) to be brought up when the phone is (re)started).
5. Rename the file(s) you suspect causing the problem. You know this by knowing the last programs you have installed (most of times the name of the file(s) express the application).
6. After you find the suspected file, rename it to .bak (for ex. fff.exe would be fff.bak).
7. Restart the phone.
8. If it complains do 4 - 7 again and so on until it does not complain.
9. If it does not complain yay you have done it.
10. Put the MMC back and turn on the phone.
11. If it complains about system error!! do 4 - 7 but instead of going to C:\system\programs you go to E:\system\programs.
12. If does not complain then you are ok. You are over.
13. If you did not solve the problem I have one final solution to you. Delete the E:\system\"programs" folder and restart the phone and if it still do complains delete C:\system\"programs". It won't complains no more. So you ask what am I supposed to do with the applications that i want to be brought when I restart the phone. You can use autoexec application to do that.
That is it...

Changing Fonts NOKIA

Requirement:

- FExplorer ( you can find it here, just search the forums )
- FontRemover ( delete your fonts automatically, can also be found here )
- Font Files ( .gdr format )

Guide:

1. Install FExplorer in your phone

2. Install FontRemover ( install it in your phone memory )

3. Upload the font in your phone (.gdr format, i prefer uploading it in MMC), place it anywhere you want, coz will be browsing the file using FExplorer

4. Open FontRemover

- Once you open the application it will say "Do you want to delete font" choose "YES", it will delete your default font automatically.
- Once you delete your font it will ask you to restart your phone, DO NOT RESTART YOUR PHONE YET, just exit the application. ( then go to step 5 )

5. Open FExplorer

- go to C:\system
- go to Options > File > Make Dir
- Create a Dir ( Folder ) "Fonts" without the "
- now you have C:\System\Fonts

6. Use FExplorer again
- Browse the file where you upload your font (.gdr format)
- Cut/Copy the file and place it in C:\System\Fonts

7. Restart your phone and you got your new font

Notes:

- Everytime you delete your font using FontRemover the "Fonts" folder ( in C:\System\Fonts ) will also be deleted thats why you have to create another "Fonts" folder everytime you change your font.

FAQ:

What will happen after i delete my font and i accidently restart my phone?
- Nothing, it goes back to your default font

How to restore my default font?
- Use Fontremover

2 versions of application on one phone

1-Install a version of desired application
2-Using some file explorer, go to !:\system\apps\ and find the folder of the application you've just installed.
3-Rename this folder to anything other than its current name
4-After a few seconds, the application will disappear from phone's menu. You can create a folder somewhere in your MMC to keep applications such like these, if you are going to do this trick with several apps
5-Install another version of the same application in your phone
6-The version that has just been installed will appear in phone's menu and work normally.
7-To use the other version that had its folder renamed, use some file explorer, like Fexplorer, System Explorer, or ExplorerSP*, go to that folder you had renamed before, and open the .app file. The application should open normally, but without its icon.If it doesn't open after you select the .app file, this app is not compatible with this trick. For example, you can use this trick to have Netfront3.2 and 3.3 in your phone.Note that Netfront3.3 should be installed first, cause it works from any place, even with its folder renamed, and Netfront 3.2 only works from !:\system\apps\ .However, both netfronts will use NETFRONT3 folder located at !:\system\apps\, for example, to hold the cache

Notes:
-Keep in mind many applications doesn't work properly when they're not located at !:\system\apps\ or after having their folder name changed.A few doesn't open, a few close when you try to use some functions, a few require different settings file, but a few work perfectly
Alternatively, even if a application doesn't work in such conditions, you can let it at !:\system\apps\ with its folder name changed.Whenever you want to use this application, just rename the folder of the current version (that should be installed and appearing in phone's menu) to disable it, and rename the folder of the app you want to activate to its original name(the same name than .app file). The application should appear in your phone's menuSome applications that work from any place:

Netfront 3.3
AC ping v1.13
S60zip v1.02
Camera Magica
Instant SIS v2.1
Sonic Boy 1.0
Vnes 1.60
Vsun 1.10

Even if you're not going to install two or more versions of a same application in your phone, you can still use this technique to avoid having your phone's menu with lots of applications. In a phone that has more applications installed, when you press Menu key for the first time after the phone is turned on, it will take more time until Menu appears at the screen. You may have to wait half of a minute or more, if your phone has too many applications installed*Don't use SmartFileman, cause it can't open some applications properly.

Create a SubFolder into folder !!(Read it Carefully !!)

Well I saw an application Regarding this and dunno if its working or not
but if u really want to make a subfolder ..then go ahead and surely u will do without a need of any applications....here is the way to do everything...[/B]

i dunno abt the application posted above
but here is some cool style to make a sub folder in any symbian phones i think

i have tested this one in 6630 and 6681 and dunno abt other phones if its working or not

but i dont think its risky in trying it one out..
go further and read this carefully ...

as you can see here, i have moved my games folder into my newgames folder as a demonstration

first you need to make your new folder (or an existing folder, doesent matter) and move this folder so it is the first folder on the menu. heres an example, if i wanted to move the media folder (and all its contents) this is were it has to be first

now you need to send an .sis file to your phone, (it really does not matter which app or game) as you can just unistall after

now you install the .sis as you normally would, then as soon as its complete, press menu (need to be fast here) and highlight a non folder icon (like logs or camera etc etc) and press options. now just wait.

after a few seconds, you will see your cursor go back to highlight the folder at the start, (the one which you moved there just now) ,in this demonstration it would be my media folder. and now because you still have the options menu open, you will see that you still have the option to move to folder , normally not an option on any symbian phones. when your cursor has highlighted over folder, thats it, just simply select move to folder and then move the folder to another folder..

do the same thing to move the folder back (if you want to) just place folder as first one from that menu, and follow steps again , this time moving back to menu

this also works if you uninstall a app / game and quickly move to menu as soon as its finished uninstalling, as this also refreshes the menu, causing the cursor to jump to the first icon, be it a folder or application icon.

note
this works on 6630 and 6681 as this is tested on6630 and 6681, and folder stays where you put it even after restarting phone, Yeah i dont know if this will work on other symbian phones Hm!? but see no reason why it shouldnt,.this is great way to organise your applications games even hide away all those unneeded ROM applications

its stable to have folders, inside folders, Yeah sub sub directorys. possibilitys are endless. im very curios on which other phones this works on Hmmm... it works a treat on 6630 and 6681, no problems as yet, everything is still very stable..
